Sean graduated from the University of Southampton in 2020 with a first-class BSc (Hons.) degree in Biochemistry and joined us here at Schlich shortly afterwards as a trainee patent attorney.
Sean’s studies specialised in the fields of pharmacology, molecular biology and genetics. Upon graduation, he was presented with an award for having achieved the highest overall mark of all of the students on his course in his academic year. During his final year, Sean undertook a research project in which he investigated the effects of a positive allosteric modulator of the mgl-2 receptor on the behaviour of the nematode worm, C. elegans.
Following one year in the profession, Sean obtained a Postgraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property from Bournemouth University, for which he was awarded a Merit. He then went on to qualify as a European Patent Attorney in 2024.
Sean now continues building his experience of patent drafting, prosecution, opposition and due diligence, and is currently working towards qualifying as a Chartered (UK) Patent Attorney, as well.
He has experience working with a range of subject matters in both the life sciences and mechanical fields. In life sciences, Sean’s experience includes compositions and methods for synthesising RNA, additives for animal feeds, test panels for detecting food intolerance, stem cell technologies for producing cultured meat, and CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing. In the mechanical field, Sean has worked on cases relating to electrical power transmission systems, wireless charging systems for electric vehicles, trawl doors for fishing vessels, specialised bridges for helping animals travel safely across roads, and plant support panels for vertical farming.
Sean is also involved in managing a large patent portfolio for one of our clients, which includes directing prosecution of patent applications in more than 20 countries worldwide.
