Carolyn graduated from the University of Nottingham with a BSc degree in Biochemistry, and was awarded a PhD from the same institution for her research into the redox role of the transcription factor STAT3 in cell survival during oxidative stress.
During her PhD, Carolyn broadened her technical skillset by spending 6 months in a laboratory at Virginia Commonwealth University, USA. Carolyn has particular technical expertise in the areas of cell culture, transfection, genome engineering, next generation sequencing and bioinformatics, qRT-PCR, immunoprecipitation and bioenergetics. Carolyn also has experience with techniques such as flow cytometry, microscopy and peptide synthesis.
Carolyn has a first author research article published in PLOS ONE.
Upon completion of her PhD, Carolyn entered the patent profession. Following a year in the profession, Carolyn obtained a Postgraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Bournemouth University, for which she was awarded a distinction. Carolyn then went on to qualify as a European Patent Attorney in 2021 and was promoted to Senior Associate in 2025.
Carolyn now continues building on her experience, particularly in the area of European oppositions and appeals.
Carolyn has been recognised as one of Managing IP’s Rising Stars in both 2023 and 2024.
