Sean Hughes

Sean has a BSc degree in Biochemistry from the University of London. He gained further technical experience at University College London (UCL) and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, NHS Foundation Trust, where he was awarded a PhD for his research into the neurometabolic mechanism behind the efficacy of the ketogenic diet in the treatment of neurodegenerative disease.

Sean then worked as a postdoctoral medical researcher at Southampton General Hospital, NHS Foundation Trust, investigating potential immunotherapeutic routes for the treatment of atopic patients, with a focus on blocking TH2 polarisation. Sean’s research has been published in the Journal of Neurochemistry.

Following a year in the profession, Sean obtained a Postgraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Bournemouth University, for which he was awarded a Distinction. Additionally, he achieved the highest marks in his academic year for Patent and Design Law, as well as International IP Practice.

Sean now continues his training as a UK and European patent and trade mark attorney, building on his experience of patent drafting, prosecution and opposition. His work also involves coordinating international IP prosecution and advising on registered and unregistered design protection.
